Cleaning Your Board
Make sure to always wash both sides, even if you only used one, to ensure even water absorption to prevent warping. Always stand the board up on its side to allow the board to air-dry evenly.
You will need:
- Non-abrasive dish soap
- Non-abrasive towel, or sponge
Steps to complete:
- Hand wash with warm soapy water
- Rinse and dry thoroughly
- Stand product on its side to allow the board to air-dry evenly
Conditioning Treatment
There is no such thing as over conditioning your cutting board. It’s perfectly ok to use conditioner sooner than the suggested every 3-4 uses or if it starts to feel dry. You can also visually tell if your board looks dry.
Regular applications of cutting board conditioner (Bruce’s Board Butter) are vital to the health and longevity of your board. Lack of conditioning can cause unwanted issues like warping, cracking, and bacterial growth.
You will need:
- A clean, dry, non-abrasive dish towel, rag, or t-shirt
- Bruce’s Board Butter (Click to Purchase)
- A clean and dry cutting board
Steps to complete:
- Spread a few ounces of Bruce’s Board Butter (Click to Purchase) over the entire board using your dish towel. Add more butter as needed until evenly distributed. Be sure you don’t forget the sides and juice groove (if your board has one). Repeat the application on the reverse side.
- Leave the conditioner on for several hours, or overnight, in order for it to absorb into the wood.
- Lastly, wipe off any remaining conditioner using a dry, clean non-abrasive cloth, so the board does not feel greasy.
Treating Odors/Stains
Odors and stains can happen, especially when working with fatty fish such as salmon or highly pigmented veggies like beets.
You will need:
- Lemon/s (Odor and/or Stain Treatments)
- Baking Soda (Stain Treatment)
- Cutting Board
Steps to complete odor treatment:
- Gently clean with soap and water.
- Cut a lemon in half and gently rub it over the length of the board on the affected side, squeezing juice as you go until the odors are no longer present.
- Rinse both sides once more with soap and water, and dry thoroughly
- Stand product on its side to allow the board to air-dry evenly
- Once completely dry, complete a thorough conditioning application with Bruce’s Board Butter
Steps to complete stain treatment:
- Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the affected area
- Cut a lemon cut in half, gently squeeze the juice on top of the baking soda and scrub in small circular motions. The fizzle that is created is the stain fighting power
- Rinse both sides once more with soap and water, and dry thoroughly
- Stand product on its side to allow the board to air-dry evenly
- Once completely dry, complete a thorough conditioning application with Bruce’s Board Butter
